Backyard Camping, Take 2

This morning I had to go to work for a couple of hours.  When I returned, I found that Bryan, Megan, and Riley had planned a camping trip for that evening.  And I was in charge of the food.

Luckily they weren't going far - just down the steps and over by the tree in the back yard.   Just like last time.

There was one improvement this time.  Bryan decided that he didn't like the experience of roasting marshmallows over his camp stove.  But he didn't think that we could have an open fire in the backyard - even if most of it was concrete.

He came up with the ingenous solution of using a small charcol grill to hold the fire.

(excuse the volcano references, we have been watching - and re-watching - a documentary about the Islandic vocano explosion)

To listen to Megan and Riley, you might think that the entire purpose of camping is to each roasted marshmallows.  Actually, it is not a bad reason.  Although Riley doesn't even wait for his marshmallow to get warm.  He puts it on the end of the stick, waves it at the fire for a moment and then pops it into his mouth.

They had a really wonderful time.  We are going to try to do this more often.  And maybe next fall Gavin and I can join in.
