For some reason, Riley's sleeping routine has gotten a lot worse over the past few days. Normally, I'll take him up, read a few stories and he'll go down and stay down without a fight. Recently, however, he's been unhappy going to bed, and has been waking up and throwing a fit a couple times a night. His mantra in the wee hours is a loud "I don't like it!", punctuated with a few "No Daddy!"s. He's really quite cranky - if I get close he'll swat at me. This will go on for 20 minutes to an hour, and in some cases has needed several visits from Maura and I before he calms down.
If we can calm him down (as opposed to letting him wear himself out), about 50% of the time he'll start the "one more blanket" game. Here, he keeps asking for another blanket to be put on him, no matter how many he currently has. Given there is a finite number of blankets in his crib, we inevitably lose the game, and he starts howling when we leave the room without meeting his demand. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Hopefully this phase doesn't last long.
