SQ Holiday Party 2008

Last night Bryan and I went to the Search Quality holiday party.  I have to say that it was one of the nicest parties I have been to.

It didn't have the most auspicious start.  I got a call from Bryan around 5 pm on the evening of the party in which he told that he just found out the party was semi-formal.  Not the kind of news you want when you are 4 months pregnant have less than three hours before the party starts.

Luckily I kept all of my maternity clothes and found the red dress I wore to Carrie's rehearsal dinner when I was pregnant with Megan.  It was festive and it fit.  A win all around.  My dress-up shoes are open toed and I couldn't find my red nail polish.  I think I left it at the lake.  So I ended up coloring in my toes with a red sharpie and putting a coat of clear polish on top.  And then in my fancy evening bag I even found a red lipstick!

But the party itself was so much fun.  There was tasty food such as: truffled mac&cheese, mini burgers made with sirloin, a plate with turkey, cranberry sauce and bread budding, an indian food sampler, and more that I can't quite recall.  And there was a dessert table with chocolate cake and carrot cake and many kinds of mini donuts.

The event itself was held in the San Jose Museum of Art.  They kept the galleries open during the party, so we were able to wander around and look at the art.  And there were even activity table where you could make a wire sculpture or a cardboard sculpture or a lego robot.

And since this party was just for the devision where Bryan works (unlike the last one we went to where it was for the entire NY office), he actually knew a fair number of the people there.  So I got to meet his co-workers.

The party was supposed to go until midnight, but by 10:30 I was wilting so we decided to head home.  But sadly it was not to be.  Bryan had turned the car alarm on when left the car in the parking garage.  But what we didn't know what was you need the fob (which was at home, since they didn't fit in my tiny evening purse) or the secret technique (which we didn't know existed) to turn the alarm off.  Just having key was not enough.  Sadly we ended up having to take a cab home and then drive back to the garage with the fob.

But even with the nonsense with the car, it was a lovely evening.  It was fun to get dressed up and go somewhere just the two of us.  And now that we are starting to get the hang of the babysitter thing, I hope there will be more evenings like that.
