Duck Pin Bowling

I've wanted to take the kids duckpin bowling for a while.  I have this memory going as a kid (and a teenager) and having a lot of fun.  Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to really exist outside of New England.  I've also had no luck finding a place that does candlepin bowling, and I think regular bowling balls are just too heavy for them right now.

So, we had a bit of serendipity on our way back from Nantucket.  While we were on 84 going to the lake, I was watching for traffic on my cell phone and saw a jam around Waterbury.  It looked like we could avoid the worst of it by cutting through on 844, so we gave it a go.  About halfway through our detour we passed by Perillo's Bowl-O-Drome, proudly advertising itself as a duckpin bowling alley, and we made a quick U-turn to check it out.

It turned out to be a great place.  The owner was a Nantucket enthusiast, and we chatted for a while - he even knew the area around Tom Nevers.  He set us up with a lane, and was nice enough to put in bumpers for the kids so they could bowl without fear of the gutter.  The kids had a great time bowling, Megan got a strike and Riley got 9 on his last frame.
