24 Hours in Ventura

We are back from a whirlwind trip down to Ventura so Megan could see Zamir and I could see Aiesha. It was a long trip, but relativly simple. The directions I printing from Google had only 9 steps. And 8 of those steps dealt with getting on and off 101.

It was a beautiful drive down, marred only by the fact that Megan threw up twice when we were only about an hour away. (I'm now considering a ban on dried fruit in the car - looking back I think all the times she has been car sick, she has been eating raisins or, one time, craisins.)

We had a blast visiting with our friends and seeing SoCal life. It is nice down there - you can see why people are so attracted to it. We actually went to the beach, in January. More pictures are here.

Driving back was painful. In part because Megan got hysterical when we left. Nominally, she was freaking out because she didn't like the dresses that I brought, but on a deeper level, it was about having to say goodbye again. Poor Megan. I don't think she understands why we moved or the fact that it permanent. Even if we don't stay in California, we aren't going back to the Tuckahoe house.

But driving back was hard because it was raining. And inexplicable, rain makes Californians freak out. Everyone was driving slooooowly. It took me a little over 5 hours to get to Ventura, but over 7 to get back home.

But it was worth it. Beyond worth it. While we were visiting, Aiesha told me that it was a little weird to to be meeting up in California. We had never seen each other outside the borders of NY state. But for me, spending time with Aiesha and her family - it was the most normal I had felt since moving to California.
