In case you were wondering, I can confirm that learning how to ride a unicycle is hard. So far, I can reliably travel about 1 foot, and occasionally I've gone about 8 feet. IUF Achievement Level 1 requires you to ride 50 meters, so I'm about a Level 0.05.
I strung up a rope between two posts of our porch to help keep me upright, which it does for the most part. So far I've sustained only minor injuries (which is more to credit of the rope than my skills), a scrape to the back of my leg and some wrist and palm pain. I have instructed Megan to come get mommy if I whang my head and stop moving, so at least I'm partially covered in the event of a major calamity. On the other hand, after seeing me practice, Megan also told me I should hold on to the rope more. I'm jealous of Megan's recently demonstrated ability to hop on her bike for the first time and start cruising solo after 10 minutes.
