Thanksgiving (Pre)Feast

Somedays I really wish I weren't bound by the laws of time and space. There just aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done.

I've had Riley's preschool Thanksgiving Feast on my calendar for weeks. I even volunteered to bring a pumpkin pie. But these days, I seem to have little control over my calendar. Inevitably, just when I think that I'm close to having a handle on things, more gets added.

In this case, it was a phone call from our pediatrician's office to let us know that they were holding an H1N1 vaccine for Riley, but we had to bring him in the next morning. I was able to get him a 7:30 am slot, but it still meant that I missed the first hour of work. (Riley, as usual didn't flinch when they jabbed him. The kid is amazing.) That hosed my planes to leave early to attend the feast.

I also found out yesterday that Megan's afterschool program was having a feast. And of course it was at the exact same time as Riley's. That is went I decided that I wasn't going to bake and we went on a quick family trip to Trader Joe's for feast offerings.

I managed to get to daycare at 4, which was half-way through the feast time. I did a quick check on Megan, who told me that she wanted to stay where she was. So I dashed over to Riley's classroom.

His teacher had made a plate for him to eat and he hadn't started to freak out that he was sans parent. (There was another boy on the verge of tears because his father hadn't arrived yet.) I was able to get a picture of him in his turkey costume before he requested that I take it off him.
After he ate some food, including a pie of pumpkin pie, we made our excuses so I could get Gavin and then we could go to Megan's feast.

By the time we got to Megan, she was done eating. But we did hang out for a little bit while she played with dominos, which made her happy.
Thank goodness Gavin is too little for a feast.
