We took the kids to their first "rock concert" last night.
At my school, the principal teaches a band class, and the students in the class perform at all of the liturgies and special events. And at the end of the year, they have an concert and invite the community. It was hailed as a very kid friendly event.
Next year, I suspect that the invitation will include a caveat that is it kid-friendly if your children aren't hellions like those Horling kids.
They started off the evening with slow ballads and some of the songs they sing during Mass. And then, right around the time that Megan and Riley would be heading for bed, they picked up the tempo with the "face-melting" songs they play at events.
My kids went wild. They were dancing and jumping and running around. Megan was throwing her doll in the air and quite close to beaning the principal in the head with it. Halfway through the show I moved to a different area because I could tell that we were annoying the lady sitting next to us (who presumably wanted to watch her child on stage, not mine running around in front of her). And then after one song in our new seats, the people next to us moved.
But it was still a fun night. My favorite part was after the band started singing Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and Riley turned to me with shining eyes and said, "Mama, they're singing about a train!"
