We had tried out a Highlander a couple of weeks ago. Which was OK. At best I could say that I didn't dislike it, not the way that I disliked the minivans. But I did like the Volvo. And I love the built-in booster seat. Why don't all cars have that?
But I am trying to figure out if I actually liked the car or if I just liked the Volvo sales experience. Bryan told me later that Volvo targets woman, and I have to say it is completely true.
The sales guy talked to me as much as he did Bryan (Usually I am ignored after the initial handshake). He didn't bather on about engine specs and actually knew how the latch points worked and which positions would work for car seats. And after our test drive he smoothly transitioned us to his sales manager, who just happened to have three kids and an XC90 of his own.
To write it all out makes it sound a little smarmy, but it wasn't how it felt at the time. It just felt nice.
In the end, I don't think that we will end up with a Volvo. I agree with Bryan, it is too nice a car for us. It would be a crime to junk it up crumbs and go-gurt wrappers.
We need to look at the Highlander again and Bryan found a Hyundai that we have to check out. But we aren't in a rush. We figured out a way to get everyone in my car. It is annoying, but it will work in the short term.
