OB Visit 24 weeks

After Megan's award ceremony, Bryan and I went off to my monthly OB check-in.  This time my OB was actually there, which was nice.

So far things are looking nice and boring.  My blood pressure was normal (so last month's high reading were certainly due to some unfortunate coffee chugging) and everything else looked good.  Growth is on track and the baby's heartbeat was good.  Dr. M went over the ultrasound results with us again.  And proclaimed the pregnancy to be "normal and boring," which in pregnancy is one of the best kinds.

He asked if we knew the gender, since apparently they didn't note it on the report.  We told him that the tech thought it was a boy, but Dr. M is willing to schedule another scan if we wanted the gender confirmed.  I'm currently thinking about it.  In general, I philosophically opposed to unnecessary ultrasounds.  I refused one when I was pregnant with Riley because they wanted to check his size at 38 weeks. (Actually, don't even get me started on the ridiculousness of 3rd trimester sizing ultrasounds.)

But I am tempted by the thought of another chance to see the baby.  Our 20 week scan was so unsatisfying to me because I really couldn't see anything.  The baby was not very co-operative and I was being moved all over the place (and I had such a full bladder that it was hard to think of much else besides getting to the bathroom as soon as possible.) So we'll have to see where I end up on this matter.

I get to do another glucose tolerance test.  I did bring in a pubmed abstract of a 1995 study that found that 28 jelly beans could be used instead of the glucose drink .  He was really interested.  It is too late for me, but maybe future pregnant women may be spared the evil glucola.
