Megan has been waiting for it to be Valentine's day ever since the calendar flipped from January to February. I can't say that Valentine's day has ever been one of my favorite holidays. But Megan's enthusiasm has been contagious. So I un-grinched enough to make the kids a special breakfast with heart-shaped waffles and strawberries and spray cream. And I even bought them valentine themed PEZ dispensers. (Bryan got a box of cherry cordials, one of his favorite candies and yet another item that is hard to find in California.)
What has been very interesting to watch has been Megan's interpretation of "Valentine's Day is for love..." It doesn't just mean that you should tell the people in your life that you love them, it also means that you shouldn't have to do anything on Valentine's Day that you don't love, like picking up your room. Or talking on the phone, wearing regular clothes instead of dress-up clothes.
Which is why Megan ended up wearing a pink dress-up dress when we walked to Kohl's to buy Riley some underwear.
Riley had another great day on Friday, peeing in the potty all day. So I decided to see if I could entice him into underwear. Kohl's didn't have the Wall•e underwear I saw on their website, but they did have Bob the Builder , which was just as good. I also snagged a set of Elmo undies marked down 60%. That way we will have some to leave at day care for accidents.
Here is the video I made of Riley getting his underwear.
You may notice that he is barely saying anything. In part that is due to the fact that his sister has appointed herself as his spokesperson; but also because he is really excited. When Riley gets excited, he whispers, as though a regular speaking voice might dissipate his good fortune.
So far the underwear is going OK. I took him to Target this afternoon in undies and took him to the bathroom about halfway through the trip. I need to have a talk with Bryan about aiming. We had a bit of a misfire on this round.
But I did get a lot of support from the other mothers at Target. They were impressed that little Riley was on his way to being diaper free. And commiserated at how much harder it was do deal with boys and the potty.
We capped of the day with take-away from the Olive Garden (thanks to a very generous gift card from my brother Jeff).
It was a very nice day. And in the end, I think that all four of us did very little that we didn't love.
