Maura and I aren't exactly known for our green thumbs. In fact, my 15 minutes of fame came from a Make Magazine article a couple years ago describing an automatic plant watering system. The plant in the picture died shortly thereafter because the bottle ran out of water.
We've been continuing that tradition in our backyard. When we moved in, there was a small patch of mostly-grass, partly-moss in our backyard that could almost be called a lawn. By the time the winter rolled around, the drought-like conditions around here killed off all but the hardiest moss, and we were left with basically a big patch of dirt.
We're hoping to rectify that situation this year. A couple weekends ago Megan and I turned over all the dirt in the backyard, and we seeded and fertilized it. Here's us hard at work:
I got the sprinkler system working again, so now the only things conspiring against us are the tree that shades the whole area and the water rationing that seems to be going in place in our area. We're keeping our fingers crossed and the kids off the seedlings. Here's a picture at T + 2 weeks.
