Chrismas Tree Top

Megan's always got some show in the works, usually involving loud singing and props. Today she came down asking if she could use my gyroscope in her show. I feared for its safety, but it turned out that all she wanted was something that would "spin and stay up", i.e. a top or a dreidel.

We didn't have one of those, but we did have some scrap wood lying around that might suffice. Part of the trunk from last year's Christmas tree has been hanging around for a while, so I cut a 3/4" disc from the end of that. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the center, stuck a pencil through it, and voila...instant top! It works surprisingly well, given how irregular the edge is. As a side benefit, it also drawls lots of swirls while it spins.
