Having been through the experience once before, the afternoon went much more smoothly. Megan (and I) knew what to expect. And she had a much better time this year.
I was home with the child-careless Gavin that afternoon, and Bryan came after he was done with his meetings for the day. We kept Riley in daycare, which I felt guilty over. But Bryan pointed out that I was crazy for thinking that. The walk-a-thon, while fun, was also hot and chaotic. And at daycare, Riley had shade and friends.

I was hoping that Megan would get her walking done early and we wouldn't end up trying to cram in the last laps under the wire. The first part of the afternoon went well, she got her first two ribbons fairly quickly.
But alas, she spent much of the remaining time walking with the very slow 4 year-old sister of one of her friends. Eventually, I had to separate them so Megan could move faster and finish her goal.
Yes, I made a four-year-old cry so Megan could get a blue ribbon. But it was worth it. (Yup, I am a monster.) Megan was so happy when she finished all 30 laps (7.5 miles !) and was a blue ribbon winner.
