Beaching @ Nantucket

We made it out to Nantucket again this year, and got to spend some quality time with Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Bob. Even though the trip was overcast for much of the time, we still got to do a lot of beaching.

Most of the time we went to Sandy Beach, since it's close and relatively undiscovered by tourists, but for the first trip out we tried to find the beach at 40th-pole. I saw it mentioned in the newspaper and got kind of fixated on it because it claimed to be a good kids beach. Here's approximately where it is:

I say approximately because it took about 20 minutes of back and forth on bumpy roads before we decided we had found it. This entrance wound up being nowhere near either the 40th telephone pole on the road or the telephone pole with a 40 on it, which makes me wonder why it has that name. Unfortunately, the access point we did find seemed to be practical only for vehicles with a sand driving permit - the beach itself was just too far away from the parking lot. In the end we wound up going down the road to Dionis, where we were met with lots of rocks and seaweed (but still had fun).

Gavin, unfortunately, never made it out. The less-than-fun experience we had with Megan at the beach at that age convinced us it was best if he stayed home. Maybe next year.
