The Tonsils Stay (For Now)

We took Megan to see Dr. B. this afternoon for her pre-op visit.

At our last visit, the doctor and I agreed that there was a possibility that Megan might need her tonsils out and just in case we scheduled the surgery for the tiny window we had between our return from the East coast and the start of school.

Megan did really well over the summer. Her tonsils shrunk from 3+ to 2 and she had a bout of goopy nose that seems to have cleared on its own. The snoring has diminished as well. And after talking with the ENT, we decided to cancel the surgery. Given the current size of her tonsils and the slim chance that their removal would do anything about the nose issue, the risk wasn't worth it. Watchful waiting is the best course right now.

I have such mixed feelings about this. Megan generally has good summers, it is when she goes back to school that the mucus starts flowing. I really want to figure out what is causing Megan's sinus issues and fix it. I was really hoping that the tonsils would be it. But at the same time, I don't want to put Megan through any unnecessary pain.

I have to call Megan's pediatrician later this week about this. I need to be refreshed about the results from her visit to the allergist last year and what they tested her for.
