Halloween #1

The kids have no less than four Halloween events this year. The first one was on Thursday at my work. Like last year, they have a fun kids' day, with food, face painting, art tables, a band and of course some candy. I ducked out of work a little early to pick Megan and Riley up from school, and we headed back to have some fun.

This year Megan wanted to be a flower. She's been learning about plants at school, and has been on a growing kick in our backyard for a couple months. Maura found a pattern online and put it together with foam paper, cloth tape and some velcro, and she found Megan an all-green outfit to be the stem. It was quite colorful and nice looking.

Riley was a robot, made from a couple spray-painted boxes, cups, aluminum foil and a bunch of hot glue. His head was kind of comically large and unwieldy, so much so that he had to use his hands to keep it on straight, which he got tired of doing after a while. He also couldn't really bend over, sit down, or reach his mouth with his hands.

We'll have to put a little more thought into wearability next year. I had a flashback to smashing up my knees wearing a giant playing card costume my dad made me one year (even so, it was a cool costume). Riley toughed it out most of the time, and got lots and lots of compliments, which he seemed to like a lot.
