We set off today for our trip to Golden Gate Park, a amazing park in the city. I remember spending a lot of time there during my first trip to San Francisco back in the 90's.
However, we discovered after we were on the road, that Jeff wasn;t actually interested in going to the park. What he really wanted to see was Golden Gate Bridge. And he had assumed (incorrectly) that the park was adjacent or connected to the bridge some how. Luckily, it was an easy course correction. We drove past the park and pulled into the Golden Gate Bridge visitor's center.
This time I had remembered to pack warm clothes for everyone. And I insisted that Jeff have a jacket. And good thing because it was bitterly, bitingly cold. The outside temperature was no more than 60° and very windy. Jeff had wanted to walk on the pedestrian part of the bridge, but it was really too windy and foggy to be enjoyable.
We took some pictures on the San Francisco side and then got back in the car and drove over the bridge to Marin County. We drove around Sausalito for a little bit and found a place to have lunch. After lunch we drov up to the Marin Headlands to see what we could see. Which was not much. I think that we were basically walking around in a cloud.
Since we couldn't admire the view, we poked around the remains of the NIKE missile project. And took pictures of the spooky foggy forest.
Despite some rocky moments (like when the kids and I has near meltdowns from hunger) it was a good trip.
