To answer the burning question: Yes, Riley was awful on the plane. Not quite as bad as the trip out, but hardly a joy to travel with. Definitely over tired getting on the plane, he got just enough sleep (20 minutes) to be stay awake and be cranky and inconsolable for much of the flight. If only it were an option to never fly with him again.
Other items to note, it rained on our way to the airport. I considered it the east coast's final farewell to me. While it complicated our departure (our driver had to take the long route to JKF, avoiding the parkways) I enjoyed it. Megan asked me why the sky was raining, I told her that it was said that we were leaving. She laughed at me. "That's so silly. The sky is in California too."
JFK was a mad house. The lines to get through security were only rivaled by the line at Dunkin' Donuts. Actually I think the TSA lines moved faster; the Dunkin' Donuts line was full of teenage campers who could not comprehend that they only had 7 dollars a piece to spend. The orders and changes to orders was maddening.
Bryan learned how to take apart an airline seat belt. I'm not going to go into why that situation came up. But I will say that I am impressed anew at his ability to learn new skills.
The kids are happy to be home. They both ran down to the playroom to check on their toys as soon as they got through the door. Megan was out of her clothes and into a costume in less than 20 minutes.
I can't quite say that I am glad to be home, but I expect to get there in the next few days.
