Uncle Jeff

My brother Jeff is visiting for a few days before he starts his second year of Med school. He wins the prize for being our first California visitor.

He is a fairly undemanding guest and I'm glad he is our first, because it allows us to work out the kinks in our visitor offerings. I need to get some stuff for the downstairs bath and we definitely need to get a better guest bed. Right now we have a generic air mattress that rests directly on the floor. While Jeff claims it is fine, I believe that it won't work at all for our, um, more distinguished guests. We are looking into getting a taller air bed.

But it has been nice having an other adult around during the day, even though he is majorly jet-lagged. I was able to do some errands by myself the other day. I need to get out by myself more often. Not having Riley with me feels like I have forgotten to bring my left elbow along.

The kids are loving having him here too. And not only because he solves every upset and scramble with a round Wild Cherry Lifesavers. (Actually, you can get a lifesaver for just saying, "Good morning, Uncle Jeff.") After most of their relationship being on the phone, it is exciting to have him here, in person.

Plus having a guest is inspiring us to get out of the house and do fun California things. We are off to Monterey today and have more planned for the weekend.
