Trip to Santa Cruz

A few weeks ago, we made plans with friends to go  Santa Cruz.  There has been a troupe of Chinese Acrobats performing there for much of the summer and this was the last weekend to see them.  The timing was good, since Santa Cruz is a place I would have wanted to take him anyway.

The beach there is very nice, plus there is an amusement park on the boardwalk.  I took the kids there a long time ago, and have wanted to go back.  There is also a train ride (not part of the boardwalk) that you can board there and be taken into the redwoods.  But sadly, we were too late to catch the train.

Jeff wasn't interested in hanging out on the beach with us, so he played in the arcade while Megan and Riley played in the sand.  I can't get over how much they love the sand.  I can take or leave sand play; the fun is countered by the fact that is so hard to get all the sand off their little bodies.  Megan was so focused on playing in the sand, I could barely get her bathing suit on.  Riley managed to get sand all over himself.

We had talked about trying to take the kids on some of the kids, but it was getting late in the day (we needed to get Jeff home so he could get ready for his flight) and I wasn't sure that the kids could pass the height requirements for the kids they were interested in.  We will have to go back again after I've found them some platform shoes.

It was a nice day and a good way to end Jeff's visit.  I really sorry that he had to leave.
