We had a fairly low key day - at two Riley had no idea that this day is special, so there is little point in planning an extravaganza. Pretty much the only thing that Riley knows about Birthdays is that they include birthday cake, which he loves.
Since we are not at home, I had planned to buy a cake. And since all bakery cake tastes the same to me, I was going to buy a cake at Stop&Shop. But I forgot that the Stop&Shop on the island is small and doesn't have a bakery. Neither Bryan nor I were inclined to drive around downtown Nantucket in search of bakery, so we decided to just get a box cake mix and canned icing.
Since Riley was with us in the store, we let him pick. He choose one of those funfetti type mixes (hey, it was his birthday). We picked up some frosting and decorations as well. Megan helped me mix it up and decorated it after I wrote the message.
This is the cake looking it's best. By the time we served it, the M&Ms on the side caused the frosting to slide off and form pools along side the cake. If you look closely, you can see the beginnings of the great frosting migration.
But thankfully the Birthday Boy didn't care how the cake looked. He just wanted cake.
It was a nice day for him.
