Shhh, the kids are sleeping...

I need to write this in a quiet voice lest the pixies hear and cause some trouble, but it is 8:30 eastern time and Megan and Riley are still asleep.

I've been a awake for a while now and been luxuriating in the kid-free morning time. I can not remember the last time that I have been both well rested and alone at this time of day. I'm going to say before Megan, for sure. But it might have been even longer ago than that. Sometime before the turn of the century when Bryan was on a trip?

But because I am also a parent, riding along side my enjoyment of the peace and serenity is a nagging worry. I know Megan is fine because she slept with me last night. Her room didn't have A/C and by 11 she gave up trying to sleep in her little bed and came to sleep with me. Megan by the way is awful to sleep with; she is a sleep sprawler and had no compunction about taking up the bulk of the bed with her tiny body.

I haven't heard a peep from Riley since he went to bed last night around 9. Not typical Riley behavior. But then these aren't typical circumstances. So I am 99% convinced that he is OK and 1% convinced that he fell out of his crib and broke his neck. So right now he exists for me like Schrödinger's cat, both alive or dead until I check his room. Since the act of opening the door to check if he is sleeping will most likely wake him up, I'm going to put it off until the paranoia over takes me or Megan wakes up and ends my kid-free time.

ETA - Riley woke at at 9:30 and Megan woke up at 11am!

Aww, I can so identify with everything you said. When Kamina has short naps I wish they were longer. When she sleeps without a sounds for a couple of hours, I'm so tempted to check on her, or worried that the baby monitor is malfunctioning. The conflicted nature of parenthood!
