We have cut out watching shows on school mornings. Since school starts at 8 (well technically, 8:10, but Megan can go on the playground at 8:00 and insists that we leave as early as possible so she can have extra time for playing) we have to be out the door at 7:45. That leaves no time for a show.
So the bulk of their TV watching has shifted to weekend mornings. We set the channel to one of the PBS stations and let them watch for a couple of hours, while we putter about. The nice thing is that Megan and Riley still seem to have a limit for the amount of TV they can consume in one sitting. After 90 minutes or so they give up on the TV and start running around and playing.
There are a couple of "superhero" shows in the PBS line up now, including WordGirl and SuperWhy which you can see have inspired some costume choices.
