We went back to Macy's today for some more couch shopping. Originally, we thought we wanted a sectional sofa. But after some conversation, we realized that we aren't sure which side we want the extra section to be on. We can make a good case for having it on the left and the right.
As a third way, we started to consider the idea of a regular couch with an ottoman. Otherwise know as the sectional sofa for the indesisive comitment phobes. But since we hadn't really tried out any couches, we had to go back to Macy's.
We tried out the Dial sofa, which is theoretically just like the Doss sectional. But it seem to sit more shallowly than the sectional. And because we don't care for the default brown color that it comes in, custom upholstery would be another $400 and 10 weeks. Ironically, the sectional sofa would be less expensive; there is no extra charge for change the fabric.
So now we are back to trying to figure out how to position a sectional sofa in our living room. And looking at fabric swatches to figure out what colors will work in the room, particularly with Bryan's LaZBoy recliner. The recliner is a shade of green that doesn't seem to go with much.
I really wish my mom were here to look at the space and tell me what to do. In all fairness, there is at least a 50% chance that I would ignore her advice. But I want it nonetheless. Just another moment where is really sucks that I live 3000 miles away.
But on the bright side, couch shopping is so un-fun that it will force us to make a decision in the very near future. Once we decide we no longer have to think or talk about couches and we'll have a new couch to boot.

I wouldn't make a decision based on a chair which can be easily recovered or replaced. I once made a choice of coach based on the carpet and I had to live with that horrible choice (and the drapes designed to tie both colors together) for years and years. Suck it up and get the fabric you like and wait 10 weeks. Or just make sure you get the fabric you like.
