Riley is Amazing at the Doctor's Office

This morning I had my second interview for a potential full time job.  I think it went well, but that isn't saying much.  Since this was only my 5th or 6th job interview ever, I really have not developed a good sense of when things are going well.  At the very least I don't think it went badly.

While I don't know if I'll be working soon, I have been taking steps to eliminate any potential obstacles.  Today I took Riley to for one of his catch-up vacinations.  While children in California do not have to be vaccinated to attend public school, private institutions (like daycare) are free to have their own rules.  And they want the kids vacinated.  Which I respect.

So today Riley got the MMR.  This was a big deal for me, as I have had a somewhat irrtional fear of the MMR, or more specfically its pontential to trigger autism.  But I did find and read an exceptionally helpful book on vacines that helped aliviate my concerns. We'll go back for the chickenpox vacine in a few weeks, once his body had had a little time to recover from the triple whammy that he got today.

But I have to say that Riley was absolutely amazing at the doctor's office.  Since it was just a vaccine visit, we saw the injection nurse, not Dr. K.  The nurse warned me that the MMR was a painful shot, so Riley might cry.  And she had him sit on my lap and gave him a bowl of stickers to look at.  She wiped his arm while Riley and I looked at the Nemo and Curious George stickers.  And before we knew it, it was all over.  Riley didn't seem to notice that he had a needle jabbed into his arm.

The nurse was quite impressed.  She told me she never seem a child sit so quietly and not cry for the MMR.  When we left the office, she showed him off to the other nurses in the office.  "Look at this boy, can you believe he just got his MMR?"

It wasn't until we were walking to the car that Riley seemed to realize what happen.  "Poked my arm," he said.  But the lollipop more than made up for the poke.
