Riley's reaction when Mommy leaves: A cry of surprise followed by crying and yelling. Great unhappiness when the door closes, and he rushes to the couch to look out the window. He cries until she drives away, and then he cries some more. A short time later he starts bringing me shoes in a vain attempt to get me to take him to mommy.
Riley's reaction when Daddy leaves: A happy "bye-bye!". A few waves, also cheerful. I stand outside the doorway waving back until he closes the door in my face. No one watches from the window.
