Breathing Is Important

Riley caught a cold at ChildWatch and gave it to me. I'm feeling stuffy and crummy and wishing that stay-at-home parents could call in sick. But at least I can breath.

As has happened many times in his young life, Riley's cold moved down into his chest and he started to wheeze. Sometimes it is just a mild case and we can make it go away with a few breathing treatments. But this time it was spiraling in a bad direction. He would be better after a treatment, but time between treatments kept getting shorter. By the time I called for an appointment, it had been less than two hours since his last treatment and he was struggling.

He is doing better tonight, but we have a boatload of medications to give him. Three inhaled meds: Albuterol (bronchiodilator), Atrovent (bronchiodilator), and Pulmicort (corticosteroid). Plus a 5 day course of Orapred, an oral corticosteroid.

We are seeing the doctor again tomorrow morning; Dr. K wants to make sure that Riley is moving in the right direction, lung-wise.
