We have been having trouble with our DVR recently. We would go to watch a show something entirely different would have recorded.
I decided last night the problem most likely was that the that the IR Blaster (a little gizmo that the DVR uses to change the channel on the cable box) was not working and we needed to replace it. But a few empirical observations were not enough for Bryan. He had to prove that the part was not working, lest we spend $10 to replace it unnecessarily.
So he pulled out our video camera, put it in IR mode, and thus was able to "see" the IR signal was working on the remote, but not on the channel changing gizmo.
I was, as always, quite impressed with Bryan's problem solving skills and scientific rigor. But I do wonder at the structure of a mind that can remember that our camera has an IR mode, but can't remember our home phone number.
