We took Riley to see the allergist today. I know, I can't believe we got an appointment on Saturday either. It was a informative, if exasperating, hour.
Exasperating, because Bryan and I both wanted to go, so we had to take Megan as well as Riley. So it was the four of us stuffed in the exam room. And Megan would inevitably start trying to talk to me or get my attention when I was trying to talk to the doctor. And she snapped of a piece of one of anatomy figures. And at the end of the visit, Riley dumped half a bag of Cherry Berry snack on the floor while the doctor was trying to go over the asthma care plan.
But in between the chaos we talked a lot about Riley's breathing and health. We are going to need to give him the pulmicort until he is symptom free for three months. If we are lucky and can keep Riley healthy, then we might be able to take the summer off and start back up in the fall.
They did a scratch test for the major allergens (mold, dust, dog, cat, egg, milk, wheat.) Thankfully Riley does not appear to have any allergies. But we will have to retest in a year or two. Apparently having asthma makes it more likely that he will develop allergies.
But most of all, I think that Bryan and I both really get what we need to be doing to keep Riley well. Mostly it means that we need to suck it up and do the breathing treatments. Hopefully, they will become so routine that none of us will fight them anymore.
