Climbing the walls

Megan and I went to a parent-child class at the local climbing gym on Sunday. Maura found it for us in the town activity guide, and it sounded like fun. I was a little apprehensive about it, since Megan is scared of heights. At the same time, she really likes climbing the boulder at the local park, so I figured it was worth a try.

It turned out that it was a belaying class - where you learn how to use rope to keep the climber safe as they go up. They set us both up with harnesses, and Megan got some rubbery shoes to wear.
While we were listening to the instructor, Megan was having a great time free climbing a short way up the walls near us. However, when we got to the much higher wall where the belaying rope was set up, she was less enthusiastic. She went a little way up, but thought the wall was too high, really didn't trust the rope, and was much happier climbing without the rope because she could jump off whenever she wanted.
We still had fun, however.
