A View of the Day, by Jeff

The rhythm of life with children is certainly different than my usual life. It is a production to move the entire family anywhere, and there is no such thing as jumping in the car and driving off; people need to be secured into car seats, entertainment and food must be provided and then you can go.

Megan and Riley did their regular summer activities today, and then I picked Megan up from swim camp and took her to mini golf. She was pretty good at it. Then we picked up Maura and Gavin at home, got Riley at school and then all went out to ice cream. This has been one fattening vacation! Then we all went to the park to play.

Riley played a game in the sandbox that I like to call Gravity: he took sand in a scooper from one spot of the sandbox and dumped in another. Megan played on swings and what are now known as "play structures". We watched men put branches in a shredder. Riley liked that. Then it was time to go home.

Riley got a shoulder ride, because he is a slow walker. Shortly after we left, I smelled something. I thought it was just a local smell, but as it followed us, I realized it was Riley. I asked him if he had a poopy diaper. He smiled at me and said no. I wanted to believe, so I did.

Then I carried him in my arm for a little while. I put him down and smelled my arm. He had indeed pooped in his underwear. The smell on my arm confirmed it. I guess Riley was just kidding. I had to take a shower.

 Such is life with kids.
