Notes from the ENT V

I took Megan to see Dr. B., her otolaryngologist today.

None of the suggestions that Megan's pediatrician had for us at Megan's last appointment were helping her nasal drainage. So it was time to go see a specialist. Again.

The good news is that Megan's adenoids don't seem to have re-grown. The bad news is that that means that we don't really know why she has been having so much sinus trouble. Dr. B. thinks that Megan's tonsils may be seeding infection up the back of her nose. And since the tonsils are overly large, and causing other problems (strep & snoring) we could remove them and hope that that helps with the sinus issues.

But first we are going to try a 20-day course of antibiotics. Dr. B. has added 10 days to the course of Omnicef that Megan was prescribed for her ear infection last week.

Since there is a very small window this summer when both the ENT and our family are available, I went ahead scheduled the surgery. And while I am hoping we can avoid it, I don't have high hopes.

And by the way, we haven't mentioned the surgery to Megan yet. We aren't planning to tell her about it, even the possibility of it, until we know for sure that it will happen. We don't want Megan to spend the summer dreading having to have an operation.
