So today, I arranged to stay at the pool after camp finished. Megan only got out of the water to eat an ice cream sandwich during the Lifeguards' 10 minute break. She and her friends were playing an elaborate game where they were mermaids. At three, I finally dragged her out so we could pick at Riley at daycare.
But sadly, just before dinner Megan started complaining that her ear hurt, a lot. I was concerned that she had swimmer's ear, since she had been in the pool so much this week. So I decided to take her to Urgent Care. I'm glad I did, because it wasn't swimmer's ear - Megan has a double ear middle infection. A pretty bad one at that. The pediatrician let me take a look through the otoscope, and it looks nasty in there. No wonder she was in pain.
In addition to looking in Megan's ear, the pediatrician let me pick which antibiotic to use. I felt almost like a colleague. And I'd never met this particular doctor before. I think he felt a little sorry for me, as Megan was a wreck and Gavin spit up all over me while Megan was getting her ears checked.
Anyway, since I got the choice, I picked Omnicef. It is a bit of a sledgehammer for the first round of treatment, but in addition to all the coverage it provides it doesn't have to be refrigerated, it is given only once per day, and it tastes delicious (unlike Augmentin.) But at this point, I just want Megan to get better.
We are going to see the ENT next week. I hope she has some insight into Megan's health, or lack thereof.
