Crafty

Despite Bryan's greatest hopes, I am not a crafty person. If I have a spare hour (which is not often) I rather read a book than make my own soap. But every once in a while, I get a wild hair and start a craft project. Usually these projects languish unfinshed, when I realize that they take more than an hour and/or have several stages that are completed over several days. But this weekend I managed to finish two projects that have been hanging over my head for months.

First, the rocking chair:

I bought the chair at Michaels' back in March, possibly February, and have been sporadically working on it ever since. The big roadblock on this one is that the paint did not have very good coverage, so I had to put on several coats, with days of drying time in between. In the end, Bryan stepped in to do the finish work; touching up all the little spots where the bare wood still poked through. On Sunday we put the final coats of sealer on and brought it this evening

Riley clearly loves it. Megan claims not to like it, because the seat is green. But I suspect that her stance will soften over time.

Also, I made Megan a blanket:

it is basically an oversized receiving blanket. My friend Jiaying has made several blankets for her daughter and Megan really wanted a pretty fun blanket for herself. Megan picked out the fabric right before we left on our trip in April and it has been waiting ever since.

I almost didn't finish it since my sewing machine (which belonged to Bryan's grandmother) broke 3/4 of the way through the project. Bryan saved the day again by taking the machine apart, finding the problem and kludging together a solution so I could get the darn thing finished.

Megan loves her blanket and I think I may make one for Riley, if we can repair the sewing machine.
