Lunch Duty

For reasons I don't quite understand, Megan really, really wants me to do lunch duty at her school.  I've had a little bit of free time, since I wasn't able to start me new job, so I've gone twice now to be a lunch mom.  And I've got to say, as far as volunteer jobs go, that has to be one of the worst ones at the school.

Lunchtime is a period of barely controlled insanity.  Imagine a horde of hungry five and six year old experiencing their first real freedom in four hours.  Not a pretty sight.

It is loud and it smells funny, since you have both the school lunch and various brought from home lunches all perfuming the air.  And none of the kids can really sit still enough to eat.  I feel like a broken record, "[Name] please sit on your bottom and eat your lunch."

But it makes Megan ridiculously happy when I go, so I am glad to have done it.  And maybe once things settle down at the job, I can work something out to volunteer at her school on a regular basis.  But not for lunch duty, it I can avoid it.
