My First Week

I started at my new job this week.  And so far so good.

I got held up on a start date by a required fingerprint scan/background check.  But the clearance finally came through on Tuesday and I started Wednesday morning.

My first day was typical of first days.  I filled out paperwork and got a tour.  I met several dozen people whose names I don't remember.  And about halfway though the day, I ran out of things to do.  And despite that, I went home exhausted and headachey.

Thursday was a little better, but at the end of the day I managed to wrench my knee (the one I broke) going up a flight of stairs.  I just stepped on it funny and it now it really doesn't want to bear weight.  Limping around was not really the first impression I wanted to make.

By Friday I was starting to find my grove.  I helped a couple of people, I finished up the first project I was given. I even spent the last hour of the day in the office by myself and didn't panic.  Although most of the employees were off playing beach volleyball as part of TGIF, so it was a pretty low risk hour.

My co-workers are very nice and friendly.  Many of them already know my name and greet me in the halls.  Sadly, I can not do the same yet.  But I feel very welcome and moderately useful which is a good feeling.  I think this is going to work out well.
