Gavin is doing great in his first two days of life. His weight is down to 6lbs, 12 oz. But that is to be expected. We need to keep an eye out for jaundice, so we may be going back in for a blood test on Wednesday. But otherwise he is everything a two day old baby should be.
Riley just has a virus and needs to go back on his asthma meds for a week or two. Dr. K. said that hopefully Gavin won't catch it. As much as we can, we should try to keep Riley from touching his baby brother with his germy hands. But not to go overboard; we shouldn't do anything that get in the way of sibling bonding.
Dr. K.'s advice (which is the same my mother had given me in a different context) was to direct Riley toward the feet, rather than the face and hands. And if we can't keep Riley away from his hands (Riley love to have Gavin clutch his finger) and we should hide Gavin's hands by swaddling him. We'll see how it goes.
