Maker Faire

My group at work decided to give everyone who wanted one a ticket to the Maker Faire, which took place this weekend. It seemed like a fun thing to do, so after Riley's gymnastics we bundled everyone into the car and drove to San Mateo, where the fair was being held.

The Maker Faire is a festival / event geared towards "makers", people who tinker, build and invent for fun. It sounded right up our alley.

Unfortunately, it seemed to be right up the alley of half the people in silicon valley as well. It was incredibly crowded. Gavin was basically asleep the whole time, but it was still a challenge to keep track of everyone without going crazy.

Outside the crowds, there was still a lot to see - booths, people giving demonstrations, talks and even some human-powered rides that gave parts of it a carnival-like atmosphere. The kids made little shrink-e-dinks out of recycled food container tops, we built a marble run, listened to a talk by Adam Savage, played on a home-made miniature golf course, took a ride in a Lunapillar, and saw a really impressive train layout made of Lego.
