Getting Ready to Go Home

Perhaps because I had already been in the hospital for nearly 48 hours before the baby was born, the doctors and nurses were fantastic about letting me leave before my federally mandated 48 hour stay was over.  All told, I was at the hospital for about 16 hours postpartum. A new record for me.

Bryan brought the kids in the morning to hang out while we finished up the last few items that needed to be done before we could leave (blood sugar checks for me and the baby, a hearing screen, and a blood draw for the California Newborn Screening Program).  I was glad to see that Riley was excited about his new brother.

Previously, he was not that thrilled about the idea of a baby in the house.  But he seems to like the reality of his brother more than the abstract.  Megan is completely in love with her new brother and very eager to help.  I'm planning to enjoy that for as long as it lasts.

Once all the tasks were completed, all that remained was to dress the baby in his going home clothes. And then get wheeled out to go home.
